Featured in this bust-view CDV is a young Union soldier. He wears a military jacket or frock over a vest.
His cap has chasseur-style decoration visible on its top, as well as an insignia on the front with the letters W R. The backmark is that of San Francisco photographers Bradley & Rulofson. Also on the reverse is a 2-cent revenue stamp, dating the image to between 1864 and 1866. The image is signed in period ink, Yours &c.
He may be Private Joseph Pierce of the 7th California, who enlisted in October 1864 at Placerville, and was mustered out in May 1866 at San Francisco. The image is in excellent condition. Measures 2 1/2" x 4".
