We are offering an original CDV photograph of Civil War Confederate General James E. Brown Stuart who was known as "Jeb" Stuart.

Written below in period ink is General J. Possibly signed by Stuart or could have been written to identify him - we don't know. This three-quarter view of Stuart was published by E. Anthony, 501 Broadway, New York.

The original portrait was taken by George S. Cook, who did, as many photographers did, sell negatives of their original photographs to other photographers for them to publish them under their names.

This photo was from Cook's original negative of the general in this pose. In this photo, Stuart's cheeks have been slightly pinkened. Written on the back is Mortally wounded in a skirmish at Ashland, Va. For information on General Jeb Stuart, go to Wikipedia.
