Civil War Era Soldier Ambrotype w Gutta Percha Case. This great ambrotype is of a Civil War era soldier in uniform. I do not know the uniforms so I cannot say if he is Union or Confederate. It came from an older private estate. Approx case size: 3 3/4" x 3 1/4".

Condition: The ambrotype has some scratches and loss around the edges near the mat edge. I do not know the condition behind the mat. I did not remove the photo. The gilt inner frame and trim are in excellent shape.

The right hand part of the case that faces the picture is broken along the top edge and has its velvet liner. I have another sale up right now that shows the same young man in a different uniform with a drum and drumsticks.
