Standard Union officer's coat and cuff buttons with a circa 1860s Extra Quality and Thomas N. Dale backmarks from an identified officer's uniform. Included in this lot are the buttons shown, notated CDV photos, and the hand-written document shown in the photographs.
The soldier enlisted as in 1862 as a corporal. He was later promoted to 2nd Lt. Of a United States Colored regiment before joining the US Secret Service in 1865 as one of the Service's very first members. I have hundreds more historic uniform buttons listed. I still clean and conserve historic uniform buttons as a hobby using only museum-prescribed mechanical cleaning techniques (no chemicals are used - ever). All of the artifacts I sell are absolutely authentic and were recovered from private property with permission. I do not invent the history or provenance of any artifact I sell; all artifacts are described to the best of my ability using available reference materials.
