It is an original 6th plate daguerreotype photo portrait of an armed Union soldier holding his long rifle while sitting in his military uniform. You can also see his 2 pistols tucked under is belt. They look like Colt Army revolvers! His belt buckle has the US.

Then slung across his body, he has a cartridge box for his ammunition. Case has the Union Flag on it.
