The image is a tintype, tall 1/6 plate in a full 1/4 plate case with broken hinge. I believe the reason for the larger case is that part of the detail would be lost in the 1/6 plate case & mask. The belt buckle is completely hidden from view (dern it).
The uniform with the black collar & cuffs might be from NC, though I have similar ones from a Chattanooga TN unit, but it also had black coat pocket tops. This image came from an estate in Chickamauga GA. Sorry, but there are 2 possible IDs on this one. Lightly penciled on the backside of the plate is..Included behind the back glass (the plate is sandwiched between 2 sheets of glass) is a brown inked piece of paper with "Uncl (Uncle) Reuben Kilch---" or "Kilre----" or "Kild (killed)". The case hinge is broken & the opposing soft pad is fading, Charlie Harris.
