Krause's Pioneer Gallery in Austin, Nevada, the other man's has a Civil War revenue stamp, which appears to have a cancellation date of the 1st of (month unreadable) 1865. The men were possibly California, Nevada African American pioneers, miners, or both.. Or maybe they were in the area to celebrate The Colored Peoples Festival, which was held at Hamilton Hall in Grass Valley in honor of the second anniversary of Emancipation Day on January 2, 1865.
