Joseph H Willard rose to Colonel of US Army Engineers and served as Chief Engineer of the Vicksburg District, and built building of the levees along both the Upper and Lower Mississippi River and tributaries in the 1870s-1880s. An original Civil War era class chestview photo of Joseph Henry Willard, Harvard Class of 1864 who left school in 1864 to attend West Point, graduating in 1868. The oval albumen photo was taken about 1864 when he was a student at Harvard College.
