Incredible original cabinet photograph of John W. January showing him seated with his missing feet and prosthetic legs. Contains January's detailed autobiography imprinted on the verso describing his capture while on the famous Stoneman's Raid with the 14th Illinois Cavalry and imprisonment at Andersonville. Following a subsequent battle with gangrene, he amputated his own feet with a pocket knife after a surgeon refused to amputate them for him. Remarkably, January survived the ordeal and lived until 1906.

INCREDIBLE ORIGINAL CABINET PHOTOGRAPH OF A 14TH ILLINOIS CAVALRY SOLDIER WHO AMPUTATED HIS OWN FEET FOLLOWING A BATTLE OF GANGRENE WHILE IMPRISONED AT ANDERSONVILLE. Taken by Bowman of Ottawa, Illinois, measures 6.5 by 4.25 inches, and in very good condition with adhesive remnants to the top border, foxing, and a pencil notation on the verso.
