You are looking at a very rare and amazing piece of Civil War history. 5 years back while traveling through Alabama I stumbled into this Confederate Ambrotype and I was told by the store owner it was her 2nd great grandfather John Marion McCollough.
She told me about his regiment the 45th Alabama and that he died in the war but not how he died. But after doing extensive research on fold3 and Ancestry I was able to learn so much more about the man. McCollough served the Confederacy under General Hood and at the battle of Peachtree Creek, near Atlanta, Ga he was killed. This is a once in a life time piece dont miss out!
The case is worn after 150 years and is missing part of the bottom to the front case. As well as the hook to hold the two case pieces together. But it does not take away any of the amazing history that is found in this ambrotype. If you have any questions please ask!
