Kepi shows a "C" insignia. Belt buckle is "SNY" and the bottom of this image is stamped/embossed "Melainotype for Neff's Patent 19 Feb 56". Neff was a student of the inventor of the melainotype/tintype. Images with the Neff's Patent mark are had to find and are usually made on a better grade iron plate. Image comes housed in a "Berg #4-22G The American Flag 1" 6th plate period pressed wood/leatherette case.
The Paul Berg Reference Book list this case as "Scarce". Spine is separated and needs to be repaired as well as missing the case securing clasp.
Images measures 2.5" X 3". Plate has some minor ripples and bends but nothing that distracts from this image displaying nicely. Tough to find SNY plate images.
