Large mixed lot of Civil War and Reconstruction-era correspondence and ephemera belonging to or addressed to John Baker of Elkrun Township, Columbiana County, Ohio, spanning the 1860s through the 1880s. Includes letters, envelopes, a mounted photograph, and civic notices reflecting the life of a rural Ohio veteran, community leader, and family during and after the Civil War.

Civil War Pension Business (1860s-1880s). Multiple letters regarding pension claims and affidavits for disabled veterans.

July 9, 1884 letter from Noble Williams, Perry Co. OH asking Baker to verify pension testimony. January 6, 1885 letter from W. Wells (Jerusalem, OH) seeking support in county court election, noting Baker's standing.

September 22, 1885 letter from M. Hall (East Liverpool, OH) soliciting Baker's influence for a County Auditor race. Requests for Baker's endorsement and influence in county elections, evidence that he was a trusted local official (Justice of the Peace / community leader).

Group portrait of four individuals (two men, two women). Reverse annotated with names including Logan Baker, O. Mount with edge wear and tape remnants on back; image has good contrast. Folded handwritten family letters from 1860-67 describing crops, family health, and daily affairs. Decorative printed trade card titled "The Sweetest Name" with verse. Envelopes (some with intact 3¢ Banknote stamps) addressed to John Baker at Elkrun, OH. Mixed lot in fair to good condition. Letters with typical folds, toning, foxing, some edge splits. Photo board shows wear and small corner loss.

"Notice to Contractors" is fragile with staining, foxing, and fold tears. This collection reflects veterans' pension struggles, county politics, and community governance in post-Civil War Ohio. The combination of pension affidavits, political endorsements, civic notices, personal family letters, and a mounted family photo gives a well-rounded picture of rural Columbiana County in the mid-19th century. Authentic period piece related to family, history or local heritage - well-suited for historical collections, genealogical /genealogy research, or museum acquisition.
