69 caliber that was converted to cap and ball during the war. Directly behind the hammer is a strong stamp of 1832/US. In front of the hammer is a very faded spreadwinged eagle motif and a moderately faded L.
The barrel is secured to what appears to be a walnut stock via two iron bands. All iron components - the barrel, the stock plate, swing swivel, the breech, etc. Have a dusky patina and have signs of pitting but are smooth to the touch and in appearance.
I have detected no rust anywhere. The soldier's initials are hand carved into the stock! The ramrod is missing along with the original carrying strap. Overall, this is a very good piece that will be an outstanding addition to a collection. If you have any questions I will do my best to answer them. What I do no is that this is a very rare find at an extremely reasonable price.
