Wonderful image of a very fashionable little boy, wearing a fancy hat with feathers, and what appears to be a 2-piece Civil War-era belt buckle. Pencil notation behind image identifies him as Shecky. This 1/6th-plate brass-mounted Ambrotype is displayed in its exceptionally ornate gutta percha case, decorated with embossed images on front and back sides. Case made by A P CRITCHLOW & CO, with much of the original paper label intact.
Brass frame mount marked: W. BOWERS / CUTTING'S PAT. Case measures 3 3/8" x 3 3/4" when closed. Case closes easily, with no stress to hinges.
