Breathtaking tinted quarter plate tintype of a handsome Civil War Color Sergeant - Color Bearer, holding an impressive example of Old Glory with pronounced eagle finial in front of what I'm told is a Maine backdrop. The stars and stripes are majestically tinted, as are his NCO stripes and pants which are tucked neatly into his boots. He wears a masonic pin, or possible corp badge upon his coat. This is a stunning example of a Civil War Color Sergeant, expertly rendered both compositionally and technically. Don't miss this one, you'll not see another of its kind and quality for some time! Condition : Beautifully tinted with a light horizontal bend through the middle, and a narrower oval impression within the mats edge. It appears the image was once housed outside of its case and trimmed on the left and right (true quarter plate height) to fit into another frame, as the oval impression is narrower than any quarter plate mat that I'm aware of. Regardless, an outstanding and authentic Civil War quarter plate tintype! Nice full black leatherette case with light wear, floral/geometric motif, original spine and excellent red velvet plush.
