" Further research to identified these officers led to a signed photograph of Drum from the Indiana State Library The cdv itself is a Matthew Brady print made from the original glass negative and is reversed to "wrong read' like a tintype of ambrotype would be. Blemishes on the glass plate are apparent in the cdv print and were likely caused by mishandling and poor storage. The two officers at left are sadly unidentified.
Drum was a native of Kentucky and joined the 19th Indiana Infantry in Indianapolis as a 1st Lieutenant and Adjutant on July 29th, 1861. After one year in service with the 19th Indiana he was promoted to Captain and Assistant Commissary of Subsistence and served for a short time in his home state before he died of disease in April, 1863.
