John M Chivington, Colonel of the Colorado Militia fought at Glorietta Pass, New Mexico, 1862, but in 1864 commanded the Massacre at Sand Creek, Colorado Territory slaughtering Black Kettle's peaceful village of Cheyenne. A very rare, unlisted CDV photo image of Chivington, seated , taken at Stevenson & Marshall's Photographic Rooms, Leavenworth, Kansas.
Approx 4 x 2.5. Age spots, edge wear, Overall VG. This photo has been in my collection 20 years. I have been a serious collector of Western Frontier Army items since 1980. I got the CDV along with some other Fort Leavenworth images in New England in the 1980s, when I lived there- I retired and moved to NC in 2014. The photo dates to circa 1864 and is original.I have always believed it to be Chivington based on the strong physical resemblance to the only other image of him published in uniform from that era. General Orders and other imprints. All items are unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic and in the condition as described. PLEASE READ DETAILS OF THE ITEM DESCRIPTION.
