Up for your consideration is this wonderful Confederate ambrotype image from the American Civil War. The young man is wearing an identified type of early Confederate commutation uniform and cuffs.
He also has a huge bedroll across his chest which is typically Southern. The case is also inscribed, Presented to Albert A. Holt by Miss Laschet Jones in the year of our Lord 1860. The image is very clear but unfortunately shattered at some point in its life. One small fragment is missing right in the center. The image was backed long ago with an advertising card from New York. There is only one half of the floral pattern case and a note was taped to it many years ago reciting the inscription. We have not tried to remove it for fear of further damaging the leather. It measures 2 and 3/4 by 3 and 3/4 inches. A wonderful addition to any collection! I will answer any questions you might have regarding this image to the best of my ability, so please write.
