Rare Half Plate Daguerreotype Photo ID'd Thomas Hinckley Bond Pre Civil War Navy

  

John is wearing his Naval uniform - he was a Lieutenant in the Marine Cutter Service at this time. I believe he also served in the Navy during the US Civil War.

Bond was born in Connecticut in 1804, graduated Yale in 1825. He was a lawyer, successful mill and flour business owner, and New York State senator. During the Civil War he also ran for Democratic office in Connecticut. Bond died in Connecticut in 1882.

Plate has a tarnish ring, swipes over the surface, not too heavy, mostly visible when tilting the image around, and a couple of tiny mat abrasion nicks.
