Rare Original 1864 Civil War Photograph MAJ. GEN. SHERIDAN'S CAVALRY STAFF

  

I believe this is a documented Mathew Brady Photograph. This photo, the writing, the period gold gilt frame and square nails are 100% guaranteed original and authentic, amazing this piece has never been out of the frame. The original square nails are in the back and square nails hold the frame together, you can see the back has never been removed, just a piece of wood backing missing. I would remove the back to see if it was signed by Brady on the front or back but I honestly do not want to be the first person in over 150 years to alter this Historic piece.

The period writing on the paper reads, THE GENERALS OF THE CAVALRY CORPS ARMY OF THE POTOMAC 1864. Along the bottom in period writing are the generals names in order = MERRITT, GREGG, SHERIDAN, DAVIES, WILSON, TORBERT. There is a stain on the left side of the matt that extends only to the very edge of the left side of the photo.

Otherwise the piece is in excellent condition, it was hard to photograph because of the reflections but it is a nice clear crisp image. The frame measures 10 3/8 inches across and 9 3/8 inches tall.
