A nice early-war CDV of Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia, prior to the partial-whitewash of its exterior walls. Conditions were exceedingly poor and the prison was overcrowded. Several men are visible in the foreground in front of an army camp. On the reverse is the backmark of I. The carte measures about 4 x 2 1/2 and is in good condition with light soiling.
