With some detective work, I found AOC to be Alfred Otis Chamberlain. AOC enlisted 7/25/1862 into Company B of the 23rd Mass. This pair of brothers has a collection of letters sent during the war stored in the Peabody Essex Museum.
There is one piece of paper stuck on Alfred's tintype but I believe will come off if you carefully wet and remove it. Backstamp on the tintype only. A fantastic identified pair of photos for the 23rd MA collector! Be sure to check out some exceptional photographs, civil war items and ephemera I will be listing in the coming weeks.
