The sleeve seems later so I highly doubt it's original to the image, which has mat abrasions (see below). Note that in my scan, a mat is partially visible, so this tintype is a period, c. 1865 photographer's copy tintype of what I believe was most likely a c.
Notice the two abrasions near the bottom of the tintype... Clearly mat abrasions, so I believe that this tintype was originally cased, and considering its size, was likely housed in one of those "CDV-sized / 8th plate" cases that were pretty common during Civil War... Now it's in this sleeve. Condition of the tintype is very good antique, or better. Light surface wear and/or grime, one little flaw down by the stock of the rifle, plus the mat abrasions mentioned above.This is guaranteed to be an original circa 1865 tintype, NOT a modern reprint of any kind.
