ID'd Civil War CDV of 2nd NJ Cav. Color Bearer Jesse Harrison, KIA Guntown, MS
ID'd Civil War CDV of 2nd NJ Cav. Color Bearer Jesse Harrison, KIA Guntown, MS. For sale is a CDV of Private Jesse L. D, 2nd NJ Cavalry, killed during the Battle of Brice's Crossroads near Guntown, Lee Co. Mississippi, while carrying the regimental colors. As stated in the Jan. 1865 Journal of the Senate of the State of New Jersey, Sergeant Jesse L. Harrison, one of New Jersey's bravest soldiers, was killed in action at Guntown, Mississippi, on the 10th day of June, 1864, while bearing the standard of the Second New Jersey Cavalry; and the flag of the Regiment was shot into shreds while borne by the standard bearer. There appear to be conflicting records regarding Harrison's rank and the date of his death, as he referenced as both Private & Sergeant and listed as being killed in action on Jun.
