Vintage RARE OLD Civil War period military canteen with daguerreotype photo

  

Maybe one of the Civil War experts out there can shed some light on its history and age. It has no markings on it.

It measures about 8" by 3". It has two pieces attached toward the top that secured the carrying chain but chain or rope is long gone. It also does not have its stopper. I was told it came from a Civil War veteran in Kansas and comes with a daguerreotype photo of the supposedly original owner. It is in well worn shape--see pics.
