Quadruple amputee Benjamin Franklin Work, born in Ohio and was wounded at Shiloh, after which he deserted and joined the 1st Minnesota mounted rifles, and then enlisted in the 2nd Minnesota Cavalry under the name Benjamin Franklin. Detailed to carry dispatches, he and his 3 comrades were caught in a blizzard in which his 3 compatriots died. After 8 days, Ben was found by a band of Indians that took home to a fort, where his limbs were amputated. Copper color marks on the left do not impair the image of Benjamin himself.
